I’ve realized that when God is your best friend, you can’t help but talk about Him. I remember when I struggled with talking about God and all the things He was showing me. I was uncomfortable, and I worried about what people would think. I had to push through my fears and literally force myself to pray in front of my kids, talk about the Bible to a friend or mention my faith to a stranger.
Apparently, something happened through the years. I went to a book club meeting the other night. The women had read my book, Eve of Awakening, and invited me to answer questions and discuss my writing journey. The club was not a Christian organization; though, there were quite a few Christians there. When I talked about my novel and the writing process, God was so thickly layered in all of my words. There was no skirting the issue of God for my life revolved around Him.
Instead of inciting anxiety, my ease at discussing faith allowed the women to be liberal with their questions about all things God. They asked questions like “How do you hear God so easily?” and “Did you plan on God being a central theme of your book” and “How do you talk to God?” I talked about the Holy Spirit’s guidance in my life, and my reliance on the Lord was obvious to all of them.
The only thing I wish I would have explained better was the importance of Jesus. I have absolutely no ability to maintain a relationship with a holy God without the Blood of Jesus. Because of the Cross, my sins are washed away and I have the righteousness of Christ covering me. It is only by the Pierced Lamb of God that I have access to a Holy God. Without Jesus, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the awesome relationship that I have with my Heavenly Father.
Luckily, most of the women in the group had a personal relationship with Jesus, and I know my words planted a seed in the other women’s hearts. But next time I will be ready to talk about Jesus being the key to my entire walk of faith, which includes my journey as a writer.
Prayer Prompt:
“Father, I want You to be my best friend. Help me to become so close to You that all my words have Your imprint on them. Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to this earth to take my sins, so I may have a personal relationship with You….”
Memory Verse:
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”
John 14.6 (NKJV)
