Many years ago during a church service, I heard a preacher say, “That which counts the most, costs the most.” As I heard these words, my mind began to muse on what counted the most to me. Without much hesitation, salvation came to the forefront. That was the most valuable thing to me.
Then in an instant later I saw the contradiction. Salvation does count the most, but what did I do to pay for it? How has salvation cost me the most? Even if I wanted to, how could I pay for it? Even If I gave all I had, it still wouldn’t be enough. I could offer myself, but that’s a measly offering. My damaged and flawed life for the life of God who came to earth in human form because He loved us would never match up.
My life would never equal the life of Jesus. However, salvation is mine and I got it for free. It’s a gift that I could never fathom of paying for. Some one richer than I and a lot more giving I paid the price for such an awesome gift. Jesus bought me that which counts the most and sacrificed what costs Him most: His life. What a rich thought! I had to replay it slowly over and over in my mind. I wanted to open the entire notion up and drink it into my spirit.
Much relishing every bite good dark chocolate, I wanted to make the moment last. I wanted to impress every nuance of the taste of God’s salvation into my memory.
Memory Verse:
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
– Acts 4:12 (NIV)
Prayer Prompt:
“Precious, loving God, may I never become so busy that I forget the most wonderful gift of all: my salvation through Jesus Christ. Thank You for orchestrating the whole thing so that all I had to do was hear, believe, and accept the truth. I truly rejoice in being able to call You my Father. Please, help me to pass this wonderful and free gift to others, including…”
