I let my kids play on my phone sometimes. I’m vaguely aware of the few games that I’ve downloaded. I know they are learning games that keep them challenged. Today, we began our family vacation for Spring Break, and I found myself bored on my flight. So I decided to look at what games were on my phone to see if any of them were interesting enough to pass the time.
I found one that I didn’t quite understand at first. Several color-coded dots were displayed on the screen in some sort of diagram, and I was supposed to connect the matching colored dots in lines without crisscrossing on the colored connections. At first, the connections were easy, and I was able to completely fill up the diagram with my connections. However, as I continued to accelerate in the levels, I found the connections harder and harder to make.
Finally, I was stuck at a level. Since I had no experience with the game, I thought the some the levels were tricks—meaning that adequate connections were impossible. I was going to give up, but I decided to show my 10-year old son to make sure I had a valid reason to end the game. He quickly took my phone, made the connections and advanced to the next level.
I realized that every level had an answer. There was ALWAYS a way to beat the game. When I gained this understanding, the levels were easier for me to advance through. I knew that somehow, someway I would find the answer and win. This knowledge forced me to make connections that were wiggly and roundabout. Many times I would have to try over and over again, looking for the right path. The harder the level, the longer it took me to figure out the path to win, but I patiently waited until the answer would finally come to me.
This reminds me a lot of faith. Sometimes a situation looks impossible, but if God says that we can do it, we must look for a way. This may mean that we do things that don’t seem natural to us or that exist outside the world’s standard, but we must trust that God sees the answer, and He’s wanting us to stretch our understanding and build our faith to find it. We can’t lose heart or give up. If God’s says there’s a way, there IS a way–even if it is squiggly and roundabout! We can activate our faith in the impossible situations, knowing that through God and the power of Jesus Christ, nothing is ever impossible!
Prayer Prompt:
“Heavenly Father, let me have full reassurance that when You say that I can do something that Your promise is sure and true. Help me not to talk myself out of obedience simply because the situation seems impossible. I trust You at Your word. Show me how to believe in the impossible…”
Memory Verse:
“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'”
– Matthew 19.26 (NIV)
