For months I had prayed for a new community of Christian women. The small accountability group of women I had met with for almost nine years had dissolved, and I knew I was floundering. Being a new member of of my church, I’d heard a lot about home teams, but I was still clinging to the hope that my little group would somehow be resurrected and all would be well. I knew in my heart, though, that while the group had been a blessing, it was time for me to move on.
Deep in my heart I knew if I would allow it, God would lead me to a new community of sisters with whom I could share life and exchange Christ. When I first heard about the Granola Bar Devotional Ministry, I was encouraged and inspired. I had enjoyed writing in my younger years, but it had been a long time since I had written something simply for the joy of writing.
Suddenly, it felt like God was showering me with ideas for devotionals (“devos” as we call them) for the Granola Bar Devotionals, which would be published and distributed to women in our church, community and world! So I started writing and then forwarding my devos to our writing coordinator. I was excited to attend my first writers’ gathering, yet more nervous than I care to admit.
God, I wondered, Would I know anyone? Would I fit in? Would the devos I submitted as offerings to God and the bevy be acceptable…even pleasing? His response: Trust Me and I will bless you. And from the very moment our coordinator opened her front door, I felt God affirming my decision to step out in faith trusting that He would provide me with a new circle of friends.
My reward: A group of wonderful, caring, beautiful women of God with whom I could share my interests and my Savior. God’s blessings just never cease…especially when we trust Him with our heart’s desire. And to think I might have missed the blessings of my new home team if I had stayed at home.
Memory Verse:
“No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
-1 John 4:12 (NIV)
Prayer Prompt:
“Thank You, God, for gently but firmly nudging us out of our comfort zone so that we can enjoy the immeasurable blessings You have planned for us. Thank You for friends, Lord, and for the support, encouragement and joy we receive from You through our friends. I pray the words of encouragement You inspire through our Marked Writers bevy will find fertile ground in the hearts of women everywhere. Allow me to pray specifically for…”
