As my pastor began his series called “The Chosen One,” I was expecting to sit and listen to all the wonderful things God has done with men and women of the Bible. I wasn’t expecting to be hit over the head with the reality that I am also “The Chosen One.” My pastor said, “You are royalty, and you need to start believing it.”
It makes me cry just writing those words. Why do I keep missing this point throughout my walk as a Christian? I tend to minimize the gifts and abilities God has given me. I always think to myself, “Well, God can certainly use so and so; he is such a talented person.” Or I say, “She is so smart. I’m sure God has a huge plan for her life.” The enemy knows what my insecurities are, and he will not hesitate to remind me of them.
For example, I love to write. I’ve written many stories, devotionals, a children’s book, and so many songs I’ve lost track of the amount. They are inspired by my own life experiences and those around me. But whenever I think about actually doing something with these writings, the enemy will try and say things like, “Anyone could write something like this. What’s so special about that story? You can’t sing or even play an instrument. Who would take your song writing seriously?”
I usually agree and stop writing for that reason. Then all of a sudden, God brings the desire back so strongly that all I want to do is write. Sometimes, I will type for hours and it only seems like minutes. It is so enjoyable and rewarding to share in words how God has moved in an area of my life.
I think many people, especially women, do not believe that their lives are destined for greatness. People or challenges hold us back from truly following our passions. We forget that being a daughter of Christ means we are royalty. Our Father is the King! And the King is waiting for us to come to His throne and start living the life we’ve always dreamed of living.
Memory Verse:
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.”
-John 15:16 (NIV)
Prayer Prompt:
“My Father, my King, I thank You for giving me unique abilities and gifts. Help me to believe in myself and trust that You can accomplish greatness through me. Let me never doubt my royal heritage that I have through You. Show me how I can further Your kingdom as I use my gift of…”
