God convicted me about judging others. A judging spirit is one of the most incognito sins out there. It feels natural to give your opinion about others. Sometimes it even feels like we have the right to speak our mind, but we don’t. The only person that ever lived who has the right to judge is Jesus Christ.
God began to reveal my judgmental attitude, and I ardently began to stop myself. However, I still continued to judge those who have hurt me. It made the pain they caused more bearable to see that they had flaws and sins of their own. However, God quickly convicted me on that. He made it clear that I was to love those who judged and condemned me, and that their judgmental spirit did not justify mine.
Therefore, I fervently began to curb my judging attitude some more. Then, I started judging people who spoke against God. Anyone who said God didn’t exist or who showed hatred towards Him, I judged. Consequently, God quickly remedied me of that prideful spirit by reminded me that He loved and died for ALL of us – not just believers.
Finally, because I had gotten so good at noticing judgmental attitudes, I began to judge people who judged. I started to say things like, “Did you hear her? She just judged that person” or “I can’t believe she just pointed out the speck in that person’s eye. How dare she!” I had fallen into the judging trap!
God finally called me on it. And I finally found that there is a freedom in a judge-free spirit. It is easier to love and serve others when we are not busily pointing out their sins. God is the supreme judge, and we are showing him disrespect and dishonor when we try to play His role.
Memory Verse:
“There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you – who are you to judge your neighbor?”
– James 4:12 (NIV)
Prayer Prompt:
“Lord, please help me not to get entangled in the judging trap. I have no right or authority to judge. Free me from my judging spirit and allow me to love others as they are instead of judging them. Forgive me for my past judgments, including…”
