My sister’s garage door broke one night, and mice got into her house. Since her husband was away on business, she and her three little ones had to live with mice for several days. She was miserable. She put out traps, she searched her house for foul smelling carcasses and she went to bed with visions of rodents in her head. She called me crying, so I went into action and obtained reinforcements. There was no reason why my sister had to face this mice menace alone. My brother, my sister-in-law and I all went to my sister’s house. Just having us there made her feel so much better. We told ... Hiccup Distractions
I was driving in the car with my kids, and my oldest son who is six said that he had the hiccups. He was pretty upset over them and begged me for a remedy. Since I was driving and there’s not much you can do for hiccups, I started telling him to do random things. “Hold your breath, wave your arms and then yell as loud as you can,” I said. He did this and nothing happened. “Look out the window and cough twenty times then stomp your feet for one minute.” Again the hiccups came back. “Try to make yourself sneeze,” I finally added, “hoping that would distract him long enough to quiet his ... Essence of Family
My family and I went water tubing with my brother’s family. My six year old son rode on the jet ski with my brother as he pulled me on the tube. I told him that he would never knock me off the tube, which—come to find out—was the worst thing I could say. My brother’s sole ambition became to throw me off the tube. I smiled every time I came to the surface after being slung into the water because I couldn’t help but enjoy the thrill. I guess I must have smiled a lot because my son said he wanted to ride on the tube with me. I gave my brother The Look, which said, “You better not knock off ... Read the Post
Rebuke Me
I was talking to my twin sister about a concern I had with a particular topic. She wisely told me that my opinion might be judgmental and that I should probably keep it to myself. I was upset at first because I thought, Surely, my opinion is godly and right. However, her loving rebuke stayed in my mind; and throughout the next several days, I came into contact with three different friends on separate occasions. This particular topic that my sister advised me on came up. Though my opinion popped into my head – and I still as of yet didn’t see a problem with it – I kept it to ... Read the Post
Transitions in the Road
I had to put my rollerblading on hold for about six years while my husband and I were growing our family. I enjoyed rollerblading a lot in my twenties, and it was so nice to finally be able to strap on my blades and hit the pavement. It took me several days of skating for my body and mind to remember how it was done. I also noticed that I was a lot more careful skating than when I was in my twenties. I have a lot more responsibilities as a wife, mother and Jesus disciple; and I have people counting on me. Though I know life will go on as usual even if I did get hurt, I wasn’t going to ...
