It was going to be “one of those days.” I had overslept, and now I was frantically rushing around, trying to get ready for my “jam-packed, really busy, got lots to do” day! I left the house about 5 minutes late, and figured if I hit every signal “just right,” I’d make it to my first stop on time – my weekly Friday ministry at Freedom Village, an assisted living facility.
I drove as fast as I thought I could get away with, hitting all the green lights – when finally I came to the last major intersection. Stay green, stay green…no, no, no, don’t turn yellow yet…RED! Grrrrr! I had just missed it! Now I was going to be late, because this was one of those intersections where EVERYONE has to make turns, so it was going to be many cycles of signal changes before I could go again.
I felt frustrated, impatient, and a little angry. C’mon, Lord, I only needed to get through this ONE LAST light. I sat there fuming, waiting for the light to turn green when I just happened to glance over to my right. There was a road sign, one of those that have a sort of reflective quality to them, and it read, “Right Turn Only.”
And there…reflected in the sunlight, right ON the sign, shining from corner to corner, was a small but beautiful RAINBOW — glowing as if it was its big brother in the sky!! I couldn’t help but smile – if I had made that light and gone through the intersection as “I HAD PLANNED,” I would have missed it!
All of a sudden, I realized that I hadn’t made a “RIGHT TURN” since I’d gotten up – because I had never turned toward God. I’d been so caught up in MY agenda that I had neglected to talk to Him. This was a little reminder from God that He is the Author of my days, and He is ALL THAT MATTERS!
Memory Verse:
“Be still and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
– Psalm 46:10 (NLT)
Prayer Prompt:
“Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to “stop” me and to remind me that You are the Lord of my life. Forgive me for rushing into my day without You. Teach me to be still, Lord. Teach me to listen. And thank You, always and forever, for Your gracious love. I’m praising the Lord of rainbow promises for the beauty of His light….”

Just like God, to get our attention in the simple everyday activities.

It’s official, Sharon. The rainbow is God’s gift that keeps on giving!
Don’t you wonder at His astonishment that we could ever go about our day without stopping to notice something so utterly awesome?
