One of the joys of getting older is seeing the fruits of your labor. For Christian parents it is especially good to see your grown children living out the faith passed down from generations. In 1972, my son was born after a difficult breach birth. He was premature weighing 4 pounds and 11 ounces. This child was dedicated to the Lord from the beginning.
He had difficulty breathing properly. When the doctor told me he might not live, I turned to God in prayer. Our church family prayed for his life to be spared. He slowly gained strength and after ten days in the hospital, he was released to go home. At night while my husband and I took turns feeding him, our prayers would float up from full hearts to Jesus.
My child grew and became a little boy with a heart for the Lord. We had a weekly Bible Club at our house, and each week children would come to our Good News Club. The children got to listen to Bible stories with flannel graph figures and sing songs about Jesus and His love.
At times it seemed like a lot of trouble, but then I would be encouraged by the children asking Jesus into their hearts. One day it was quite rainy, and the club had four children: my two children an two others. In a moment, I had a sense of foresight that God had a special purpose for their lives. Bil was especially sensitive to the other children no matter who came. He wanted them to come to our Good News Club and would invite all the kids at his school.
That was the beginning of his call to be a soul winner. Today, my son Bil is pastor of Bay Area Fellowship in Corpus Christi, Texas. The other boy, Kelly Wick is a fulltime drama minister and travels with a well known gospel singer. The two girls are Christian mothers and career professionals.
Memory Verse:
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it.”
-Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)
Prayer Prompt:
“Father, I thank You for using me to share Your love with my children and others through the years. Thank You for Your hand on my life in winning and influencing souls for Your kingdom.
