Last weekend I went to Austin, Texas, on a “Girl Trip.” Fourteen women ministry gals (5 were pregnant) crammed into a 15-passenger rental van on our way to a conference that would inspire us to step-up our pursuit of the Living God. But as inspirational as the conference might have been, the sweetest part of the entire trip was the fellowship.
It was six round-trip hours of endless chatter, trading seats, diet tips, and laughter…lots of laughter. Some of the girls had known each other for quite some time and some had just met. It didn’t matter. God had orchestrated this field trip in such a way that all hearts were melded together before the first potty break.
Friendship is one of the coolest experiences that God ever dreamed up. It’s miraculous the way He draws us to one another to discover how very much we are all alike. On our one-day journey I realized that I am not the only girl who worries about being a good mom, or the only girl whose husband will call and talk sexy because he knows it will make 13 other girls giggle.
I’m not the only girl who gets carsick, and I’m not the only girl who gets misty-eyed when hundreds of women sing, “Blessed be the Name of the Lord.” And I’m definitely not the only girl who gets giddy at Starbucks! God has shaped each and every one of us so uniquely, yet we are all created in His likeness with a hunger for togetherness.
It’s no secret that we all lead very busy lives. Time with your girlfriends is a precious gift that seems to be harder and harder to make room for these days. However, life is a journey and I don’t know about you, but this is one trip that I don’t want to make without the companionship of my soul sisters!
Memory Verse:
“Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.’”
– 1 Samuel 20:42 (NIV)
Prayer Prompt:
“Lord, You designed me for fellowship. You knew at the beginning of creation that we would long for the company of one another. You have been so faithful to provide special friends through every season of my life. Just as You have blessed me, help me to be a blessing to others by…”
