One lazy Saturday afternoon as a friend and I strolled through a local gift shop, we came across a sign which read simply: Filling Station. The contrast between the white wash on the distressed wood with the subtle moss green lettering caught my eye, but it was those two simple words which caused my friend to pause.
“Look!” she pointed, “Doesn’t that sign remind you of our pastor and his reference to the church as a filling station – a place where Believers go to get filled up and refueled each week?”
“Yes,” I agreed and jotted down “filling station” on a paper bag for further reflection.
Later, I recalled the wonderful afternoon I had spent with my friend and remembered that little sign. I realized those two words could reference not only the church, but many other tools God uses to restore our hearts and minds, like enjoying a leisurely brunch with a friend in a café as worship music plays in the background or the encouraging fellowship and support of a Home Team, and reading God’s word: our endless source of fuel for daily living. God is always close at hand.
He speaks to us in many ways, reaching to where we are in our hour of need. He’s a 24 hour filling station for Believers – an endless source for all we need to fill our weary, depleted hearts and minds.
Memory Verse:
“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”
– 1 Peter 5:10 (NIV)
Prayer Prompt:
