“Mummy, all my socks have holes in them,” commented our older daughter.
“Mine, too,” her younger sister chimed in.
I felt sad for our girls. We were preparing for mission work in Brazil, and there just wasn’t money in the budget for new socks. We had asked God to supply funds for our support and air fare, and He had graciously provided. But socks? Could I trust Him to meet that need for our family?
As I thought about it, I decided to pray about the situation. “Lord, we have asked You for big things, and now I ask You to supply some socks for our girls.”
No sooner had I finished asking God about the socks than the phone rang. It was a friend inviting us to join their family for lunch after church that Sunday. We were glad to accept the invitation. Upon arriving at their home, my friend said, “I was just wondering if your girls could use some socks. Our daughter has way too many, and they are all in perfect condition. We’d be happy for you to have them.”
She then presented me with a bag full of socks, so many that they were spilling out the top! Tears trickled down my cheeks as I shared with my friend how the Lord was using her to answer my prayers. She had tears as well.
Together, we thanked the Lord for His provision. I never forgot what the Lord showed me through that experience. Nothing is too insignificant for Him. If it matters to me, then it matters to Him as well. I learned to trust Him for everything, whether big or small, and He brought that experience to mind many times throughout the years that followed.

“Dear heavenly Father, thank You for the ways in which You provide for Your children. What a gracious Father You are! I trust You to meet all my needs, as You have promised. Thank You that nothing is too small that it doesn’t matter to You. It is a privilege to share my heart with You and wait to see how You will answer….”
