On a recent trip with my girlfriend I found myself in utter awe of the buildings in New York City. I couldn't understand why I was so amazed by them. They have no life. Man built them. Why did they make my heart stop just to look at them? I decided that maybe it was because I knew how much work was put into building them. This was especially true of the cathedrals. When I looked at the beauty of these cathedrals, I was overwhelmed by the sheer grandness of them. If I were a young girl again, I would have wanted to live in them. Now I can be content with simply gazing up at them or ... Read the Post
God's Box
Unpacking recently after a move, I was delighted to find a box that a friend had given me a few years ago. It is a beautiful box. It is small, white, and covered with beautiful lace. The top has lace and a silk ribbon decorated with pearls. I thought she had made it especially for me until she announced that it was “God’s Box.” Seeing the puzzled look on my face, she proceeded to explain. “This box is God’s Box and any time you are worried about something or if you have something you want to give to God, just write it on a small slip of paper and put it in God’s Box. There is just one Rule: ... Read the Post
God Spoke to Me
For the past several weeks I have been participating in a Bible Study authored by Priscilla Shirer entitled, He Speaks to Me. When I began this study, there had not really been a time in my life that I could say God had spoken to me. As I listened to the testimonies in our group, I realized that this is something that I have never experienced in my walk with the Lord. About five weeks into the study, I attended the Women of Faith conference along with some friends whom I had invited to go with me. During the conference, God provided in some amazing ways, but the most exciting moment came ... Read the Post
God's Plan for Parents
One of the joys of getting older is seeing the fruits of your labor. For Christian parents it is especially good to see your grown children living out the faith passed down from generations. In 1972, my son was born after a difficult breach birth. He was premature weighing 4 pounds and 11 ounces. This child was dedicated to the Lord from the beginning. He had difficulty breathing properly. When the doctor told me he might not live, I turned to God in prayer. Our church family prayed for his life to be spared. He slowly gained strength and after ten days in the hospital, he was released to ... Read the Post
God's Provisions
Returning home from a mission trip to Ecuador, God laid this message upon my heart. Think of a time when you have struggled financially in your life. Perhaps you were not sure how to pay all your bills, or you had to scrape together loose change to buy a loaf of bread. Remember what it took to make it through that tough time. Perhaps you borrowed money, sold or pawned a possession, or applied for public assistance. Now, think of what you felt – frustration, despair, fear, hopelessness, or shame. Missionaries in Ecuador and other poor countries minister to people who also have struggles. ... Read the Post
God's Representative
I believe that every day we have choices to show Christ’s love. Today that opportunity came as I was picking up a few items at our neighborhood grocery store. I approached the checkout stand knowing full well that I had basically five minutes to pick up my daughter from school. Looking at the three person line in front of me, I had to make a choice. Should I go for the express lane knowing that I had too many items, should I ask someone if I could go in front of them, or should I just be late picking up my daughter? Suddenly, my knight-in-shining-armor came forward and said, “I’m opening ... Read the Post
