I don’t know what is worse or most exhausting: the emotional dilemmas of a teenager, the beginning stages of hormones for a tween, or the rambunctious behavior of a toddler. They are each exhausting in their own right. I’m not sure if I can keep up. And let’s not forget that each child has his/her own time zone. My teenager does not get up and start moving until noon. My tween loves to slowly wake up around 8:00 am, and my toddler…well, he is up at the crack of dawn rearing to go in Mama’s car. What makes it more fun is that by the time I’m dressed and meet the needs of my toddler (i.e. ... Read the Post
Barking Dogs
One night not too long ago, the noise of neighborhood dogs barking woke me from a deep sleep. I was groggy, but my first thought was: “Why are all the dogs barking?” There had been a few burglaries in the area, so our neighborhood was on alert for unusual activity. I got up and checked to make sure the doors were secure. Then I peeked out the front and back doors looking for activity but didn’t see anything. I shrugged my shoulders and climbed back into bed. False alarm. All’s well. We’re safe, I thought. Silly as it may sound; as I drifted off to sleep, I thought that people should be ... Read the Post
Battle Against Sin
Interesting historical fact: George Washington fought the American Revolution for absolutely no pay. He believed in the American cause so much that he was willing to fight and die with no reward other than knowing he helped us to be free from British tyranny. Is it just me, or does that sound just a tiny bit like someone else we all know? The difference between Washington and Christ, though, is the fact that Christ didn’t just fight against British tyranny; rather, Christ fought evil tyranny found in the entire world. He paid the ultimate price: His life. Christ defeated even death, ... Read the Post
Beauty From Within
Do you ever notice that some women seem to become more beautiful with each passing year? It’s as if they have a glow about them which is rooted from deep within. I have several of these friends, and I have come to realize that their beauty has nothing to do with their outward appearance. It has everything to do with their relationship with Christ and those they love. Society would have us believe that beauty is attainable with the right products, the right clothes, and, sometimes, the right surgeon. I know that these things are all temporary fixes, but many of us have come to feel we don’t ... Read the Post
Another Birthday
As my birthday approaches, I find myself (once again) considering my appearance. I notice more fine wrinkles on my hands and arms, as well as fine lines around my eyes. It seems like they crept there almost overnight. And now – unless I rinse L’Oreal medium golden brown hair color into my hair every couple months – my gray hair becomes more obvious every day. Yikes! I still have a year before I hit the big “5-0!” Our society places great importance on personal appearance. We must look young and beautiful – regardless of our age. Sometimes it’s tough not measuring my appearance by those ... Read the Post
