It was going to be “one of those days.” I had overslept, and now I was frantically rushing around, trying to get ready for my “jam-packed, really busy, got lots to do” day! I left the house about 5 minutes late, and figured if I hit every signal “just right,” I’d make it to my first stop on time – my weekly Friday ministry at Freedom Village, an assisted living facility. I drove as fast as I thought I could get away with, hitting all the green lights – when finally I came to the last major intersection. Stay green, stay green…no, no, no, don’t turn yellow yet…RED! Grrrrr! I had just missed ... Read the Post
The Lifter of My Head
Do you recall a time when you were young and someone you loved and adored, someone you looked up to, stood before you, took your chin gently and raised your lowered head with their hand? Your lip may have been quivering with a tear running down your cheek. That tall person lifted your head until your eyes met with theirs. Peace for the Journey
Monday I went to a barbecue given by one of my friends. It was the first time that I had met any of her family. They were wonderful. They treated me as if they’d known me all of their lives – they treated me like…well, like family! I felt the same way. My friend comes from a large family. I enjoyed my time visiting with her sister, brothers, and all her friends. But the highlight of my evening was spending time talking with her “80-something” mother. What a precious woman of God; what a delightfully happy soul. She and I talked about many things – and the name of Jesus wove through our ... Read the Post
Essence of Family
My family and I went water tubing with my brother’s family. My six year old son rode on the jet ski with my brother as he pulled me on the tube. I told him that he would never knock me off the tube, which—come to find out—was the worst thing I could say. My brother’s sole ambition became to throw me off the tube. I smiled every time I came to the surface after being slung into the water because I couldn’t help but enjoy the thrill. I guess I must have smiled a lot because my son said he wanted to ride on the tube with me. I gave my brother The Look, which said, “You better not knock off ... Read the Post
