As my birthday approaches, I find myself (once again) considering my appearance. I notice more fine wrinkles on my hands and arms, as well as fine lines around my eyes. It seems like they crept there almost overnight. And now – unless I rinse L’Oreal medium golden brown hair color into my hair every couple months – my gray hair becomes more obvious every day. Yikes!
I still have a year before I hit the big “5-0!” Our society places great importance on personal appearance. We must look young and beautiful – regardless of our age. Sometimes it’s tough not measuring my appearance by those standards, and instead remembering that God finds more beauty in me with each passing year.
He finds beauty in my heart and takes joy in watching me become the woman He designed me to be. He is the great designer – molding and making me and you into a more beautiful creation with every breath we take. Although my body continues to change with each passing year and I don’t plan to stop coloring my hair anytime soon, I’ll celebrate each birthday with the knowledge that God sees beauty in each and every wrinkle and gray hair.
And that is definitely something worth celebrating!
