I was driving in my car listening to “Grace Like Rain,” by Todd Agnew, which has some of the lyrics of John Newton’s song “Amazing Grace” in it. And I wondered how Newton would react to the fact that parts of his song were being pulsed through radio waves in the sky, blasting through speakers of a self-moving contraption over 350 years later!
Did he know that the hour or so he took to sit down and write the song would influence so many lives? Could he have fathomed that the small effort of obedience he dedicated to God would make such a difference?
God says that the good work He has started in you will continue until His coming. That means that your good works do not die when you do. The people you influence and the sacrifices that you make today will continue even after you take your last breath. The deposits that you make into God’s kingdom will not fully mature until Jesus comes again.
So don’t feel defeated when your good works have not been immediately followed by rewards. The love and sacrifice you show to your family, friends, acquaintances and strangers are being seen and are being tabulated. And when you see God face-to-face, He will reveal to you the wonderful and expanding effect that your small sacrifice produced.
Memory Verse:
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in your will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
-Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
Prayer Prompt:
“Lord, today help me to be obedient to your leading so that You may complete the good work that You started in me. Help me to make the small sacrifices and put forth the effort to do good works that will share the Word of God and encourage fellow Christians. Let me start by being diligent about…”
